If a fortress fell there was a good chance it was not going to be retaken for years, many new grudges were added to the book during this time. Every fortress had to be self sufficient because an event could take it before help could arrive. Dwarven Karaks holding out against swarms of beastman/orcs/chaos. I've only finished CoW as Dwarves, but damn was that a blast. When you have 30 Chaos doomstacks filled not only with experienced warriors but also sorcerers and demons rampaging across the Empire, when you manage to take out two stacks with one of yours only to have four more take their places and your army all but depleted of men, when your fortress garrison repels an invasion only for two other armies to lay siege immediately in the following turn, when you desperately gather your best knights and soldiers in an attempt to take out Archaon - it's genuinely great. Very rarely do you feel in a game that the apocalypse has come and that you're screwed - CoW does it and I hope W:TW lives up to it. Similarly when the Chaos invasion comes, do you allow Chaos to run rampage over the whole Empire first, then clean up and absorb everything - or do you fight them step by step to preserve the Empire?Īnd oh boy, the Chaos Undivided invasion. To resolve the situation you have to kill the faction's current leader, but you're faced with an interesting conundrum: do you try to to make it quick and save your ally, or do you slowly take over their territories and absorb it into your own? It makes for very interesting headcanon about the rise of your chosen faction in particular. Essentially Empire factions can fall the heresy, causing them to enter a state of war with all other Empire factions (you are otherwise locked in as allies). The heresy mechanic is great too, and along with some other mechanics prevents the Empire from becoming invincible. Hochland has access to the best handgunners Ostland heavy spearmen will survive most things thrown at them Wissenland through Nuln get the most powerful cannons that will absolutely fuck shit up.
I'll speak mostly for the Empire factions here in the vanilla mod.ĬoW's handling of the Empire in particular is superb given the limitations of M2TW, and each Empire faction has its own traits and unique personality.
